ITEM # 061711 (B-313)
Beautiful late Art Deco circa 1940's crystal clear glass rhinestone brooch in a layered dimensional bow tie motif.
Brooch consists of a large faceted foil back baguette with 4 faceted rounds and 4 faceted pear shaped rhinestones on top layer. Bottom layer consists of 12 more faceted rounds, 6 more faceted pear shape and 4 faceted princess shaped rhinestones for a total of 31 hand prong set rhinestones set in rhodium plating.
Although unverified, the back construction along with the layered dimensional high quality faceted glass rhinestones, show signs of possibly early DeLizza. In "Juliana Jewelry" by Ann Pitman, she wrote about speaking with Mr DeLizza he stated "Although the colorful pieces are so highly sought after, they represent a very limited amount of jewelry made by D&E. The company manufactured for the times and in the moment. The crystal rhinestone pins were a staple for the market in the late 40's early 50's."
Brooch measures 2 1/8" in length and is 1 1/4" wide. Stands 1/2" tall.
Condition: Good antique condition with typical wear due to age and handling. Hazing starting upon close inspection, as these are foil back rhinestones. Rhinestones do not show any yellowing, as they are most likely high end lead glass rhinestones and or possibly Swarvoski. Although this piece does show hazing, it is still has a beautiful presentation, as I do believe it was made by a high end costume jewelry producer at the time. Also, please note, there are no "dead" (dark or black) rhinestones, so any that appear so in my photos is due to shadows from the stones being layered and the actual camera flash.
