Item 121708 (Box 407)
Large unmarked Schreiner of New York mid century rhinestone brooch. Brooch has the reverse setting /inverted pear shaped fancy faceted rhinestones, hook & eye construction and a very similar brooch can be found under the reference section of MorningGloryAntiques.com
Center rhinestone is a huge round faceted glass rhinestone with a silver finish. There are 9 large round faceted glowing champagne orange color faceted glass rhinestones surrounding the center. I noticed these rhinestones actually do "glow" under my UV light a very pretty bright pink. There are 7 large round smooth cabochon glass balls that are a smoky color. Finishing the brooch are the 7 inverted rhinestones to complete this masterpiece!
Brooch measures approx 3" in diameter and is layered with an approx 1" thickness.
SCHREINER jewelry was made from about 1951-1970s. The company was started by Henry Schreiner, who had worked before WWI for other jewelry companies, and the pieces were hand made. Known for their quality stones and unusual color combinations, one trademark of Schreiner jewelry is the reverse setting of rhinestones (point up instead of point down). Large, colorful and eye-catching, these are favorites of most collectors. Henry Schreiner started his career designing for Christian Dior. He produced only small runs of each design and his pieces are avidly sought after by collectors and fashionista's.
Condition is very good antique with typical wear due to age and handling. Slight scuffing seen only upon very close inspection and to be expected as typical wear. Stating for accuracy purposes only as this is a really nice high end designer costume jewelry brooch.
****Photos are both inside lighting as well as outside as the sun was shining today and wanted to show you the way this piece captures both types of lighting.
